NC REALTOR® Target of Real Estate Scam

It has been brought to our attention that a North Carolina REALTOR® has been the target of a real estate-related scam involving an international buyer from Japan.  In this particular instance, the person corresponded via email and made an offer on a home. After signing the documents through DocuSign, the buyer was instructed to send $7,600 in earnest money to an attorney. A certified check was sent to the attorney's office for $150,000. After some investigation, it was determined that the check was bogus. In similar reported scams, the buyer backs out a few days later and requests the money to be refunded. In this situation, the attorney was skeptical of the initial check and thankfully caught it before monies were exchanged.

Please contact them again to remove the property address once the property is sold and occupied.
