A Continued Update on GenX

July 3, 2017 - Since the story broke last month, we continue living with the uncertainty of what effect, if any, the presence of GenX in the Cape Fear River has on the environment and on human consumption. We continue to urge members to attend meetings and monitor the news media for updates.

Please watch your email, www.CapeFear.Realtor, the MLS logon screen and Cape Fear REALTORS Facebook page for additional communications once the experts release more information.

We understand that the Environmental Protection Agency is involved and that the EPA is the regulatory body who is entrusted with evaluating and regulating chemicals which are harmful.

Per the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, the results from the water samples are not yet available.

While the presence of GenX is not a material fact that brokers are required to disclose (please contact NCREC if you have questions regarding material facts), Cape Fear REALTORS® continues to urge its members to direct all consumer inquiries to the following experts:

•    Cape Fear Public Utility Authority: Two daily updates on GenX are posted. The address is: http://www.cfpua.org/289/Public-Information

•    NC Department of Environmental Quality

CFR sent you a survey last week. We want to release specific information on any impact the uncertainty of the water quality has had on real estate transactions. Please respond to the survey before Friday, July 7. Here is the link: https://wrar.formstack.com/forms/genx_water_issue
