Realtors Honored with Local Annual Awards of Excellence

WILMINGTON, N.C. (December 5, 2014) – During its quarterly membership meeting on Wednesday, the Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors (WRAR) recognized several of its members for their superior performance, dedication and community service.

Bobby Jean Harvey of RE/MAX Essential was honored as the 2014 recipient of the Paul Sullins Community Service Award. Bobby Jean demonstrates her commitment to bettering her community through outstanding public service. After fourteen years as a social worker in the foster care system, she founded her organization called Bobby Jean's Kids.

This non-profit organization works extremely hard each year to raise money for local foster children in New Hanover County. One-hundred percent of the proceeds are given to children with no family or that have been abused physically, socially, emotionally and verbally.

Rebecca Lothe of Intracoastal Realty was awarded the 2014 Sally Noffsinger Scholarship Award. This award was started in 1987 and named after one of the first women in the Wilmington real estate market. Rebecca earned this honor by being a constant producer and being involved with seminars and educational opportunities.

As a result, she will receive $225 toward the Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) designation or any advanced course sponsored by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) or N.C. Association of Realtors (NCAR).

Jimmy Hopkins of Intracoastal Realty was awarded the 2014 Cathy Clark Memorial Award. This award is given to a Realtor and MLS member who has held membership for at least two years and, as a full-time active agent, and has attended at least one local or state association sponsored seminar.

Jimmy actively served on the 2012 MLS Task Force on New Construction, the 2011 WRAR Building Grand Opening Committee and was awarded the 2010 Paul Sullins Community Service Award. He also recently attended the 2014 NAR Annual Convention in New Orleans. As the winner of this award, he receives a $200 scholarship that may be used toward designation or broker courses and/or technology training.

Melanie Orlando Welsh of Envision Mortgage was selected as the 2014 Allied Member of the Year. This award is given to an Allied Member who has made outstanding efforts on behalf of WRAR and the real estate profession.

Melanie personified this by sponsoring several WRAR events and seminars, such as Realtor ReCharge, Pork n’ Politics, Masquerade Ball, and others related to affordable housing initiatives. She also serves as an active member of many other local organizations like the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Mortgage Bankers of the Carolinas, and the Wilmington Cape Fear Home Builders Association.

Todd Toconis of Town and Country Real Estate was named the Wilmington Downtown Top Producer by Wilmington Downtown Inc. (WDI). Toconis had seven transactions representing an investment value of $2,433,500.  The area for this award is bounded by the Cape Fear River, Wooster Street, Nixon Street and 16th Street. This is the second year that WDI and WRAR collaborated on the award.

Other notable recognitions include Marilyn McKoy with Network Real Estate as the 2014 Life Member, Stephanie Lanier with the Lanier Property Group as one of NCAR’s 2014 Rising Stars, and Rudie Malpass with Central Realty Co. as a 2014 Realtor Emeritus Member.

The Realtor of the Year, Salesperson of the Year and Hall of Fame Awards will be given out at the 2015 Installation Banquet scheduled for January 9.
